WHY WORK WITH FLOW:SKATE ?

Safety & Duty of Care is Paramount

At Flow:Skate, after fun, safety is ultimately the most important factor.

Fun Comes First, But Work is Important

If it’s not fun, then why do it? Fun is where it all started for pretty much everyone, so Ti will always endeavour to keep that vibe alive. However, in the progressive realm of almost any activity, hard work is very important. Although as an old saying goes ‘Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life’ :)
Finding the balance will be a collaborative effort between all parties, but expect to be pushed, or at least encouraged, a little bit beyond any existing comfort zones.

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

In the Intermediate Program we will effectively work on tricks, and how to effectively incorporate them into lines that work. Ti will inquire on moves that you may want to do, as well as suggesting others that you may not have thought of or considered.

Brushing up on and refining the basics is essential here also, as well as filling any missing gaps, as no building is strong without a solid foundation at its core.

ADVANCED PROGRAM OBJECTIVES & SOLUTIONS

The Advanced Program builds on the Intermediate, and is a deep dive into everything else that it takes to become the best that you can be, with the aim to be able to hold your own in any session, or competition, and mix it up with the best!

Solidify Strengths, and Work Through Weaknesses

Ti will aim to identify both of one’s strengths & weaknesses, both in tricks and thought processes. There may be some that you’re not even aware of! These will be collectively worked on and prioritised as to which are the most important to deal with. Solving some issues may help in swiftly alleviating others.

Competition & Demo Strategies

Being a World Skate accredited judge, as well as personally having had decades of competition experience, gives Ti the direct understanding of how to help to concisely craft runs that will maximise scoring potential, and feel great to do. Sometimes runs don’t always go to plan, so strategies for spontaneous recovery will be integrated into the program.

Higher level competitions & public demonstrations generally require a certain standard of skating to be a benchmark, however, pleasing a demo crowd isn’t necessarily the same mindset as consistently placing well in competitions, and the relative freedom & positive energy of a demo session can often assist in landing new & difficult tricks.

Facilitating Focus, and Finding the “Flow State”

Focus is arguably the most important element to the successful achievement of anything worthwhile in life. “Flow State” is something akin to the pinnacle of focus, it is like focus with no perceived effort. Therefore, enhancing it is key. Reaching “flow state” more readily, and keeping focused, can be assisted by utilising various methods, which will be explored and tailored to each skater where appropriate.

Mindset Maintenance

Life can sometimes seem repetitious and follow some patterns, but every new moment can open up to offer us new opportunities. Our minds are similarly in a constant state of flux, perpetually processing thoughts to be able to best navigate any given scenario. Hence, maintaining stability of one’s mindset is crucial for consistency in outcome of any performance-based activity.

Complementary to focus, strengthening the mindset will also be assisted by encouraging the utilisation of various tactics.

Understanding the Industry & Sponsorship

Through extensive time in the industry and numerous roles, including team managing, Ti has a deep understanding of the ins & outs of sponsorship, and can assist with making the right choices in representing brands & companies that align for all parties.

Social Media Smarts

Social media can be great for one’s image and getting your skating or the like to do the talking. However, one ill-chosen photo or clip posted publicly can potentially ruin anyone.

Ti will offer guidance with how to curate one’s chosen platforms, without it turning off any current or potential sponsors or organisations.

Setback & Injury Management

Things don’t always go to plan, so a perceived failure such as a missed wall or obstacle, particularly in a high stakes scenario such as during the first run at a competition, can make or break us, leaving us either calm & ready to move on, or alternatively to lose our composure and crumble into anger, frustration, and “why’s” or “what if’s..”
Such predicaments will be examined, and solutions for dealing with them adapted to the individual.

Injuries are also part of the package of skating, and can lead to extended time off the board. So seeing the right therapists, and filling any so-called “downtime” with positive actions and thought processes is key to bouncing back quicker, and more resiliently. Through having undergone several surgeries due to skate injuries, Ti has ample experience to assist in this realm!

NOVICE PROGRAM

While the primary focus of Flow Skate is with intermediate to advanced skaters, Ti will gladly work with those who have recently started their skateboarding journey, to provide a fun, relaxed & informative pathway forward no matter your ultimate aim. This would entail a maximum of three participants in a session, with those already having their own equipment, which includes a complete skateboard setup, appropriate skate shoes, plus a helmet. Knee & elbow pads and wrist guards are not a necessity, however they are recommended.

Ideally, you will already have attained the skills of pushing, stopping, turning, tic-tac’ing etc, so we can step it up straight away to your new moves!

If you want to improve your transition/ramp/bowl skating, you should already be able to drop-in and turn confidently.

Awareness of hazards & other people, skatepark etiquette, plus general board care & understanding will also be covered.
